If you read the Books of Gospel carefully, you can understand that Jesus has preached about FINANCES more than any other subject. We can quote many scriptures that talk about financial prosperity for God's people. At the same time, we can quote scriptures that explain how finances can hinder someone's trust in God when they put their trust in finances and thereby try to make it their God.
However, the church is afraid of speaking openly on finances, out of the fear of misunderstanding of the congregation. As a result, the majority of Christians are not financially blessed.
Well, we read in Hebrew 11:6 that without faith, we cannot please God.
(Heb 11:6)
But without faith it is impossible to please him...
Again we read in James 2:17 that faith without work (without putting into action) is dead.
(James 2:17)
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
There are different ways of putting our faith into action for receiving a blessing from the Lord. In fact, these ways totally depend on what we are expecting to receive from God. For instance, many have faith in God for healing. As a result, they receive healing when they put their faith for healing into action. Let's look at some of the ways that we use to put our faith for healing into action.
*Speaking to the devil
*Speaking to the sickness
*Praising God, by quoting scriptures about promises that we have already received healing in us
*Wait upon God for healing without rushing to doctors
When we put our faith for healing, into action, we experience healing. However, even if we experience healing from God in this faith operation, many of us fail to be financially blessed not because we do not have faith in God for finances, but because we have failed to put our faith in God for fiances into action as the Scripture shows. Truly, our faith for finances is dead as it is not accompanied by work or action as it is said in James 2:17.
How do we put our faith for financial prosperity into action according to the Scripture?
Look at the below passage of the Scripture.
(2 Corinthians 9:10)
Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)
The sower sows a seed in expectation of a harvest. The seed the sower has right now in his hand has to be sacrificed in order to get this harvest. The sower who sows a seed must have faith in God to multiply his seed into a great harvest. The sower may sacrifice the only seed he has in hand in this great faith in God. The sower has to make this sacrifice because God cannot multiply the seed of the sower as long as he keeps it in his hand. Truly the seed should be sown on the ground for God to start the multiplication process.
The principle of financial prosperity is the same as the principle of the seed sown. We must give what we have in hand for God to multiply it for us. In giving, we must do it in the scriptural way in order to experience the multiplication process of God.
What is the scriptural way of giving?
The people in the Old Testament were asked to give one tenth of their wealth (TITHE) and freewill offerings to God so that God could multiply what they offered. But this giving was enforced by law. Hence, those who did not give were under a curse as the braking of the law was a curse.
(Malachi 3:8-9)
Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation.
So, as a result, they gave under obligation. They gave out of fear. They gave in order to get rid of the curse and the wrath of God.
However, we, being in the New Testament, are not cursed even if we do not give our tithes and freewill offerings because our Lord Jesus Christ has removed this curse of the Law being a curse for our sake.
(Galatians 3:13)
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:
Nevertheless, we are also bound by the same principle of giving as those in the Old Testament, in order to be materially or financially blessed by the Lord. But the motive of giving in the New Testament has to be entirely the opposite of the motive of giving of the people in the Old Testament. In other words, we must not give as an obligation or out of fear. Look at the below scriptures to understand how we must give being the people in the New Testament.
(2 Corinthians 9:6-8)
But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:
In addition to the above writings of the Apostle Paul, Jesus Himself has confirmed the fact that God would bless abundantly those who give cheerfully. Look at the below verse:
(Luke 6:38)
Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.
Well, now the question is "To whom should we give?".
Today, there are two types of ministers in the church who talk about giving in two different ways. One segment of ministers force people to give their tithes and freewill offerings, by quoting the Old Testament Law. They always quote Malachi 3:8-9 and terrify people and make them give. As a result, they give as an obligation and out of fear. Their only motive of giving is to escape the wrath of God.
The other segment of ministers are trying to be more righteous than God. They preach that they do not expect money from people. As a result, people become slack in giving even if they want to.
Truly, both segments are not correct according to the Word of God. People should give to God as they cannot experience a financial prosperity without giving. People truly give not because God is not able to feed ministers if they do not give, but because God cannot bless them financially unless they give. When people give, God use their giving to bless them as well as the ministry in the church. That is how God keeps the whole system moving.
If any minister or worker hinders the giving of people out of their own righteousness, they hinder the blessings of people in the area of material or financial prosperity. However, even those who give to the first segment of ministers fail to see the multiplication process of God in their giving as their motive is not in line with the requirement in the New Testament because of the wrong teaching of their ministers.
Some denominations send workers with bags with big mouths for collecting tithes and offerings from the congregation. This method of collection of money hinders the motive defined by the teaching of Jesus Christ. Sometimes, some denominations ask the congregation to make an obligation to give a certain amount of money periodically throughout the year. In this exercise, givers are asked to fill different forms disclosing their names and the amounts they are going to give. These methods are contrary to the Word of God. No body should know how much I want to give to the Lord because it is my offering to the Lord and not to the humans. When I give, my giving should be between myself and God because it is God who finally multiplies my offering for me.
Truly, these present methods of collecting tithes and offerings kill the motive of people who are giving. As a result, even though people give, they don't see any difference in their finances because their motive is wrong according to the New Testament. If they had been in the Old Testament, they would have been blessed in abundance as they have been so faithful in giving.
