CASTING SATAN TO THE GROUND
Many Christian denominations believe that Satan was cast to the ground before God created Man. They believe that the world was in darkness after God created it just because Satan was cast to the ground. Look at the below scriptures:
(Genesis 1:1-2)
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
They believe so as God would not create the world in darkness. Truly God neither created the world in darkness nor the world was in darkness because of Satan being cast down from Heaven. If you read the above scriptures very carefully, you can understand that the darkness was not upon the world, but upon the face of the deep. This deep refers to the deep of the waters as the world was fully covered with water when it was initially created. This is another subject which we have to address separately. However, according the explanations given so far through this series, it is very obvious that Satan was in the world as Lucifer, being the best Angel of God even after God created Man.
Casting Satan to the ground implies that Satan is losing his place in Heaven. In other words, after Satan was cast to the ground, Satan could not go to Heaven. However, during the Old Testament Period, Satan could go to Heaven and appear before God Almighty as he had not lost his angelic powers. Look at the below scriptures:
(Job 1:6-7)
Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
The above scriptures clearly prove the fact that Satan could present himself with other holy angles before God Almighty in Heaven. Do you think that if Satan had been cast to the ground right at the beginning when the world was created, Satan would be allowed to go to Heaven even for a visit? Could Satan appear before God Almighty in the capacity of the devil who is equal to man in power?
In fact, although the word "Satan" is used in the above scriptures to identify Lucifer , Satan had not become the devil by being equal to man during the Old Testament Period. That is why Satan could freely visit Heaven as and when he wanted.
Now look at the below scripture:(Ezekiel 28:17)
Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.
The above prophecy of Ezekiel proves the fact that Satan had not been cast to the ground even during the time of Ezekiel as it is written as a judgement to be executed by God in the future.
Now look at the below scripture:(Isaiah 14:12-16)
How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations! For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms; Casting Satan to the ground confines the dwelling place of Satan to hell which is the centre of the earth. Hence casting Satan to the ground and casting or bringing down Satan to hell give the same meaning.
Then, when was Satan cast to the ground???
In order to understand when Satan was cast to the ground, let's consider a vision seen by John in the Book of Revelation.
Rev 12:1-10
(1)
And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the
sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve
stars:(2) And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.
(3) And there appeared another wonder in heaven; and behold a great red dragon, having seven heads and ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads.
(4) And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.
(5) And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
(6) And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.
(7) And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels,
(8) And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven.
(9) And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
(10) And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of his Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.
Almost every Christian believes that the Woman in the above vision refers to the Church. Man Child is none other but Jesus Christ. Look at the 5th verse:(5) And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.
The above verse clearly shows the beginning of the New Testament Period as it shows the Birth, Death and Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Hence, all the verses above it (from verse 1 to verse 4), show happenings before the New Testament Period.
Who is the Dragon?
