Mark 10:29-30
29 And Jesus answered and said, Verily
I say unto you, There is no man that hath left house, or brethren, or
sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my
sake, and the gospel's, 30 But he shall receive an hundredfold now in this time, houses, and brethren, and sisters, and mothers, and children, and lands, with persecutions; and in the world to come eternal life.
Many
Christians believe that material blessings in abundance are not
biblical for the people in the New Testament just for the fact that
Jesus suffered many things to bring us our salvation. But this is a
myth...
Christ suffered to bring us salvation, but to bring what, do we suffer?
People
in the Old Testament were assured of abundant material blessings when
they followed the Law of Moses. We can read this truth for ourselves in
Leviticus Chapter 26 and Deuteronomy Chapter 28.
According to Mark 10:29-30, for the people in the New Testament, abundant material blessings are assured for preaching the gospel and not for anything else.
What
does this mean? Preaching the gospel to the world is the greatest
commandment in the New Testament. That is why abundant blessings for
both lives (in this world and in eternity) are assured for this great
commission.
Well,
now it is obvious why many of us lack many things in this world to make
a better living. This is not the way the Lord has called us, but we
have missed the greatest commandment which inherits abundant prosperity.
But,
we must remember one thing - we are assured of these material blessings
with persecutions. These persecutions are the sufferings we have to go
through in preaching the gospel. These persecutions do not mean lack of
material blessings at all.
