Genesis 3:17
17 And
unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy
wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying,
Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
Have you ever felt that what you have received or what you have been paid is not commensurate (or not worth) with your labour?
Yes,
it has been and is the experience of people in the world including many
Christians since the beginning of this world. The opening scripture
reminds us the very reason for this.
When Adam sinned against God, God never cursed Adam,
instead cursed the ground for his sake. As a result, Adam had to eat of
it in sorrow as he had to work hard in order for the ground to give its
full harvest.
However, when Adam's son, Cain killed his brother Abel, the first punishment became more severe. Look at the below scripture.
Gensis 4:11-12
11 And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; 12 When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength;
Now for the first time, man is cursed from the ground and as a result, the ground does not yield her strength.
The
first punishment given to Adam wants us to work hard in order to eat
from the ground and the second punishment given to Cain makes the ground
fail to give its full strength. The final outcome of these two punishments is even though we work hard what we reap is not commensurate with our labour.
Up to this day, inhabitants of the earth are subject to these punishments, just like the punishment of their physical death.
But
we should not forget that the children of God with whom God has made
covenants (covenant people of God) are exempt from these generational
punishments. Look at the below scripture.
Genesis 26:12
12 Then Isaac sowed in that land, and received in the same year an hundredfold: and the Lord blessed him.
Even today, only covenant people are exempt from these generational curses.
We, the people in the New Testament have entered into a blood covenant
with God the Father, through the death of His son, Jesus Christ.
But
the devil, the deceiver from the beginning, has deceived the blood
covenant children of God that they are also under the same curses with
the unsaved people in the world.
Let's
pray that God may open our understanding to our rights in the covenant
which God has made with us through His son, Jesus Christ. Let's claim
these rights from God in order that the devil stops deceiving us anymore
by stealing our treasures hidden in Christ.
