Do the works mentioned in
Rev 20:13 mean the works, those in hell had done on earth when they were among
the living?
Not at all. Look at
the below verse:
Revelation 20:14-15
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
If those in hell are
eternally judged to go to lake of fire, why should the Book of Life be
open again and cross-checked for their names in it?
Well, God knows the
work of every man at their first death. Hence, if it is the work of every man
on earth, God does not want to take another judgement to open the books to check for things written in them regarding
their works on earth and then look for the availability of their names in the
Book of Life.
Truly, the works in
Rev 20:13 mean 'the works in hell'. In the sense, God judge those in hell
according to their works in hell.
Well, what are the works in hell that deliver those in
hell from the eternal fire when God judge hell?
It is not anything
else, but REPENTANCE. Those in hell are tormented day and night in
order that they repent over their sins. The names of every soul who truly
repents because of their sufferings in hell are being transferred to the Book
of Life for them to be delivered on the final day God judge hell.
God want every soul in
hell to repent and accept Jesus Christ as their personal saviour. This is the
very reason why Jesus Christ went back to Tormenting Zone in hell after
the resurrection (Read the series titled 'The Dead' for more details) , with the same body in which he was on earth,
in order to preach to those, who got caught to the flood in the time of Noah,
and now are bound in chains in prisons.
1 Peter 3:18-20
18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: 19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; 20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.
Why did Jesus preach
to these souls in hell if they have already received their eternal judgement?
Well, Jesus preached
to them as there is salvation for them as well. What would have Jesus preached
to these souls, who are bound and tormented in hell? Guess what?
Jesus preached to them
nothing else, but the message of REPENTANCE.
Thus, after the resurrection, Jesus preached to those on earth and also to
those in hell to bring salvation to everybody. This is the very reason why
Christ came down to earth and then went further down to hell after tasting the
death on the cross.
Not only human souls,
even some of the angels in the host of angels who joined Lucifer (the
present day Satan) to sin against God, are bound in chains in hell for a second
judgement. Look at the below verse:
2 Peter 2:4
For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;
In this context, even these fallen angels are
not given the eternal judgement, but still having a chance to get back to
Heaven through repentance. That is why they are bound in chains in hell
unlike the rest of the devils who are free to
move around over the earth and in the heavenly places.
Obviously there won't
be a judgement for these free devils as they are not bound in hell and reserved
for another judgement. These devils are set free in order that they
never get repentance so that they are cast into eternal fire on the last
day.
Nevertheless, there
are only three in the whole Bible who have already been given the eternal judgement
(without another judgement) to be cast into lake of fire.
Revelation 20:10
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
Yes, according to the
above verse, these three are Satan, also known as the devil or the old serpent, the beast also known as
Anti-Christ who would rule the whole world during the pre-tribulation and great
tribulation period (7 years altogether) and the false prophet, who would join the
beast during his reign.

Hi .. thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic.. I too think that in a soul's state after death .. there is an awareness of truth and they are able to come to repentance at the end of the age, if they didn't in this life. Unlike now on earth if you repent you can enter into God's presence. After death, you have to wait until the end of the age. But hell is a tool to open eyes to lead people to repentance, I don't believe it to be the gruesome images people create .. it is ultimately for their God and the chastening of a loving God ...
ReplyDeleteYes Jesus is the way, but there isn't the qualifier of believing in this earth .. it's just believing ..thus they can in hell and be redeemed in the resurrection.
