How do you justify taking liquor?
8 And the Lord spake unto Aaron, saying, 9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations:
Truly, the Holy Spirit has clearly given me the understanding that we should not take any form of drink which is mixed with alcohol for the purpose of receiving the effect of alcohol to any extent. A few weeks ago, I wanted to write on this subject, but still I could not gather the facts from the Word of God to prove the point biblically. But this morning when I was asking the Holy Spirit to send the right message for the day from the throne of God Almighty, the Holy Spirit put the topic of 'ALCOHOL' in my mind. So, today, let's talk about it.
We all know that there were kings and priests who were ordained by God in the Old Testament. However everybody in the Old Testament could not become a priest or a king. For a generation, sometimes, God would ordained one single person as a king. God ordained only selected people from the tribe of Levi as priests. The one, who was ordained as a king or priest had to be anointed with the Spirit of God (the Holy Spirit). God sent the Holy Spirit only to those chosen kings and priests in the Old Testament.
Anointing and consecrating of Aaron and His sons as priests
Exodus 30:30
30 And thou shalt anoint Aaron and his sons, and consecrate them, that they may minister unto me in the priest's office.
Anointing of Saul as the king over Israel1 Sammuel 15:16-17
16 Then Samuel said unto Saul, Stay, and I will tell thee what the Lord hath said to me this night. And he said unto him, Say on.
17 And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the Lord anointed thee king over Israel?
Anointing of David as the king over Israel (after Saul sinned against God) 1 Sammuel 16:13
Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
Thus, only priests and kings were anointed with the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament. As a result, the rest of the people were regarded as the ordinary people who had to resort to priests and kings ordained by God for their matters with God.
In the Old Testament, God came to the tabernacle of Moses to meet with the anointed priests to send God's message to the ordinary people. Therefore, even the Tabernacle had to be anointed and sanctified before God could come upon it.
Exodus 29:43-44
43 And there I will meet with the children of Israel, and the tabernacle shall be sanctified by my glory. 44 And I will sanctify the tabernacle of the congregation, and the altar: I will sanctify also both Aaron and his sons, to minister to me in the priest's office.
Exodus 30:26
26 And thou shalt anoint the tabernacle of the congregation therewith, and the ark of the testimony,
Priests who were allowed to enter the Tabernacle of God were given several other commandments in the process of their sanctification in order to meet with the Lord in the Most Holy Place. The below scripture shows one of them.
Exodus 30:19-20 (KJV)
19 For Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet thereat:
20 When they go into the tabernacle of the congregation, they shall wash with water, that they die not; or when they come near to the altar to minister, to burn offering made by fire unto the Lord:
Among the sanctification process of priests in order to enter the Tabernacle, we find the opening scripture (Leviticus 10:8-9) as another commandment for Aaron and his sons. This commandment specifically prohibits Aaron and his sons to take either wine or any strong drink at the time of entering the Tabernacle.
By the sacrifice of our Lord, Jesus Christ, today, we all have the privilege of being anointed with the Holy Spirit as it is gift from God to every one who believes in Christ. Therefore, we all in the New Testament are made priests and kings unto God the Father by our Lord Jesus Christ.
Revelation 1:6
And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
On the day, we receive the promised gift of the Holy Spirit, we are anointed as priests and kings unto God. Not a particular group of people, but anybody, who believes in Christ has the opportunity to become a priest and king through Christ unto God the Father.
When we read John Chapter 14, from the beginning to the end, we realize that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit - Trinity God dwell in us - in our physical body. Our spirit was anointed with the Holy Spirit like Aaron and his sons were anointed. Then God has entered into our physical body to meet with our anointed spirit as God entered the Tabernacle of Moses to meet with Aaron and his sons. In other words, our physical body has been sanctified by the blood of Christ and then chosen as the Tabernacle of God.
We see how the glory of God covered the Tabernacle of Moses when God descended upon it.
Exodus 40:34-35
34 Then a cloud covered the tent of the congregation, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.35 And Moses was not able to enter into the tent of the congregation, because the cloud abode thereon, and the glory of the Lord filled the tabernacle.
We see a similar incident when The Temple of God made by king Solomon was dedicated to the Lord.
1 Kings 8:10-11
10 And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy place, that the cloud filled the house of the Lord, 11 So that the priests could not stand to minister because of the cloud: for the glory of the Lord had filled the house of the Lord.
Dear friends, there is no difference in the Glory of God that descended upon the Tabernacle of Moses and the Temple of God with the Glory that has descended within our physical body. When the tabernacle of Moses and the temple of king Solomon were filled with the Glory of God, people could not do anything therein because the blood and flesh could not stand the Glory of God.
Since the people with the sinful flesh could not enter into Heaven and experience the Glory of God, God has brought Heaven with His glory into us through His begotten Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen!
Aaron and his sons were not allowed to drink wine or any strong drink because they were not ordinary people. They were called to be priests unto God. They were called to hear directly from God on behalf of the ordinary people.
This is the same even in the New Testament. Those who want to live a higher life being filled with the Holy Spirit and be great in the sight of God, are not allowed to take wine or any strong drink. Look at the below scripture concerning John the Baptist.Luke 1:15 (KJV)
15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.
So, today, our physical body is God's Tabernacle and God's Temple. It is our responsibility to keep it holy without defiling it.
Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
There are many Christians today, who take beer and other types of liquor, which are named as strong drink in the Bible. They maliciously quote different bible verses to justify their temptation.
Many say there is nothing wrong with alcohol as Paul has instructed one man to take a little wine as he was sick. Yes, in this instance, the motive of taking little wine was to heal a sickness. On the other hand, St. Paul asked him to take only wine and not any strong drink as only wine could react as a healing to the relevant sickness
But the types of liquor taken by people today are falling to the category of 'STRONG DRINKS' whether they are taken in mall quantity or big quantity. The Bible does not say anywhere that strong drink can be taken by children of God to any extent for any reason.
Some say they take little. But what is the motive by taking even little? God's tabernacle, which is our body could be defiled even by little of strong drink even if it does not make us drunk.
Some Christians say since Jesus took wine at His last supper and has wanted us too to take it, there is no harm in taking liquor. Well, Christ has chosen 'WINE' at the last supper in order to symbolize His precious blood. We do not want Jesus to shed His blood as we love Him. But God wanted Him, because of our sin. Jesus has told us to take wine in remembrance of His blood, which is shed for the remission of sin of many.
1 Corinthians 11:25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me
Therefore, drinking WINE in this context is a very sorrowful thing. That is why we sanctify ourselves by repenting over our sins before drinking wine at the Communion Table. We still have a small sip of wine from the cup, while closing our eyes as it is truly the blood of Christ at the moment we are taking it.
1 Corinthians 11:27-28
27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
So, my friends, we all are called to live a higher life in Christ in the New Testament. Our calling is very high. We are not like the people in the Old Testament. We are priests and kings unto God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
So... Those who still take beer or liquor (even occasionally), please think about it again...
