6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
According to the above scripture, God wants us to pray to Him in secret in order for God to bless us openly. In other words, a secret prayer life is necessary for every one of us if we really want God to bless us.
God wants to hear from every one of us individually as God wants to show Himself as He has only one child on earth for Him to hear from Heaven when every one of us say individually 'Oh My Father in Heaven!'.
God expects to build a very personal, strong, intimate, love relationship with very individual on earth. This kind of relationship is essential for God to reveal His divine plan in our individual lives on earth. It is through this same relationship God pours His blessings (spiritual and material) to our lives.
Here are some points to build a powerful secret prayer life which is essential in building such a personal, intimate, love relationship with God.
- In
our house, if our bedroom is shared by any other member in the family,
then our bedroom is not the right place for our personal prayer life
because we should be able to keep the door closed until we finish our
prayer every day.
- Kneeling down is very important during our time of prayer, especially at the time of submitting our requests to God. Jesus Himself did this before the Father before submitting His requests.
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed, 42 Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.
- A mat is recommended to be kept on the floor but praying on bed is not recommended at all.
- We can have a small table, especially allocated for prayer, before which, we can lay our mat so that while on knees, we can keep our Bible open on the table. Holding the table with hands, while on knees is no harm but not continually.
- We must train ourselves to stay on knees at least one hour as Jesus wanted His disciples. Daily we must spend at least one hour either in the morning or at night. Those who find it very difficult to do this, must make sure that the total time they spend in the morning and night be equal to at least one hour.
Matt 26:40-41
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
- Sometimes, we may not be able to stay on knees for one hour at once, but if we say, 'Lord! thy grace is sufficient for me', the Lord would give us the strength to do what we cannot do right now. Remember those who kneel before God can stand before anyone as a lot of kneeling would keep you in good standing.
- A true Christian, who spends quality time in the presence of God on knees, must have two marks (so called 'prayer marks') on their knees. These marks are not meant to be shown to the world, but to the Father in Heaven who watches us in secret when we pray in secret.
- Before we pray for our needs, it is necessary to spend a time of praising God for what He has already given us. Those who think that God has not blessed them yet for praising in this manner, can look at their own body and praise God for the different body parts God has given them, by remembering millions of people who lack even those necessary body organs, but still survive under the sun.
Phil 4:4-6
4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice. 5 Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. 6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
- Adding good piece of music, gospel songs with full band music etc. to our praising time is a good idea as they will help us greatly to rejoice in the Lord. When we do our morning praising in very early hours in the morning, we can make use of a headphone to hear the music and songs of praise.
- Since praising time is a time of rejoice in the Lord, there is no need to stay on knees during this time. As our room door is closed, we can stand and even add some sort of dancing for the music and songs as David did before God. This kind of praising may look odd to those who have never experienced it before. But praising God with songs of joy with dancing is not a new thing to God's people according to the Bible.
14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.
- Never forget to pray for others. Remember prayer of intercession can move God to bless your life in every respect. Further, the more you pray for others, the more you forget to worry about your own problems. When we forget to worry about our own problems, it is the time that the devil stops tempting us and God starts moving to bless us even with blessings that we never ask from God.
