Story of Garden of Eden - Part 1

Genesis 3:4-6

4 And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: 5 For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. 6 And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.

When we read the above scriptures, we understand that it was Eve, who was deceived by the serpent (Satan). This is further revealed in the New Testament as well. Look at the below verse.

(Note - It was Lucifer who entered the garden of Eden, who later became Satan or the devil. Please read Story of Satan for the full story)

2 Corinthians 11:3

But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty,..

Well, God told Adam not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:16-17
16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Since Eve was not formed, when this conversation took place between Adam and God, obviously it should be Adam, who would have informed the same commandment to Eve as what God said.

There are certain Christian denominations who believe that Adam was in a different place in the garden far away from Eve when this communication took place between Eve and the serpent. However, the majority believes that Adam was with Eve when she communed with the serpent as the scripture says that after she ate from the wrong tree, then she gave the same fruit to her husband, who was with her (Refer Genesis 3:6).

Well, we must first understand that this incident in the garden of Eden is not a fairy tale or is not supposed to take an abnormal form.

Just imagine how could Adam remain silent when the serpent was trying to deceive Eve telling her what God had not told Adam???
What was the reason under the sun for Adam to be silent at this point of conversation???
If we say Adam was with Eve when she was deceived by the serpent, doesn't the silence of Adam sound odd???

The below scripture reveals how Adam referred to Eve when God asked Adam why he ate from the wrong tree.

Genesis 3:12

12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat

Well, if Eve was referred to as the woman (wife) whom God gave Adam to be with him, even Adam can be referred to as the man (husband) whom God gave Eve to be with her. Therefore, in order for Eve to refer to Adam as the husband who was with her, there is no need for Eve to be physically near him all the time.

Hence Genesis 3:6 can be elaborated as below:
Genesis 3:6
...and gave also unto her husband who was made to be with her; and he did eat.

Now we will come to the very important point.

What would have been the most appropriate reason for Adam to listen to Eve and thereby to find himself breaking the commandment of God?
