It is difficult to give a proper answer to the above question without providing enough facts from the Word of God. Hence this message might seems a little bit lengthy. Please start to read it leisurely as time permits.
When God gave Adam the commandment not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, God never mentioned that Eve should also hearken to the same commandment. Someone can say this would have happened this way at that time since Eve was not formed by then.
Well, if it were the case, why didn't God subsequently inform either Adam or Eve about the requirement of Eve to follow the same commandment?
In fact, Adam assumed that even Eve was also subject to the same commandment after God kept her near him to be with him. Even today, we all considered Eve as another 'Adam', who was also under the same commandment of God just as Adam himself did.
Let's look closely at some facts regarding Eve who was with Adam in the garden of Eden:
- This female received her first name as 'WOMAN' by Adam when she was first seen by Adam.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
- The Bible also confirms this name as the right name for this female since the Bible has used this name to refer to this female even before Adam. Look the below verse (Genesis 2:22) which is just before the above verse (Genesis 2:23)
22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
- This same female again received another name as 'EVE' by Adam after God condemned Adam with her (WOMAN).
20 And Adam called his wife's name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
- However this name -EVE, the Bible has never used to refer to WOMAN before Adam gave it to her.
- The meaning of 'EVE' reveals that Adam gave this name in the capacity of 'HUSBAND'
- Adam gave the name of 'WOMAN' to the female who came out of his rib, in the capacity of the MAN who was given authority to give names to all creatures within the garden of Eden. But at this moment, WOMAN did not carry the title as 'WIFE' of Adam. Adam never called 'WIFE' when he was referring to this WOMAN. Even when God asked Adam why he ate from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, he never used the word 'WIFE' in order to refer to her, but used the same name- WOMAN. Look at the below verse:
12 And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
The above answers given by Adam to God shows the purpose of forming 'WOMAN'. Let's try to gather more facts to understand the real purpose of forming 'WOMAN' by God.
Well, Adam was kept in the garden of Eden with a purpose. Look at the below verse:
Genesis 2:15
15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
According to the above verse, the purpose is to dress and keep the garden of Eden. In other words, Adam was kept inside the garden of Eden as he was appointed as the keeper of the garden of Eden.
But subsequently, God thought that the job was too much for Adam to perform alone by himself.
Genesis 2:18
18 And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
It is at this point that God started forming various animals out of the ground in order to provide HELP for Adam to dress and keep the garden.
Genesis 2:19
19 And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
These animals are different from the animals God created on the 5th day of Creation due to the following reasons:
- On the 5th day of Creation, God created animals as God wanted them to multiply over the whole earth.
Genesis 1:20-22
20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.
- God never called Adam to give names to these animals that were expected to multiply over the whole earth.
- God wanted Adam to give names only to the animals that were formed out of the existing ground to be within the garden of Eden as they were formed to provide HELP for Adam. God gave the authority to Adam to call these animals by any name Adam wished enabling Adam to use his own names as and when he wanted their help to carry out his duty in the garden.
However God realized that none of the animals formed out of the ground as HELP for Adam could provide the exact HELP which Adam wanted to keep and dress the garden.
Genesis 2:20
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
It is at this point that God decided to form (not create) 'WOMAN' out of the existing physical body of Adam. In other words, WOMAN was formed to provide HELP for Adam to dress and keep the garden of Eden as God formed animals out of the ground.
So, as God sent the animals to Adam to give them names as Adam wished, God brought 'WOMAN' before Adam to give her a proper name which Adam could use to call her whenever he wanted HELP from her to keep and dress the garden.
But as the Bible has used the same name - WOMAN, to explain her, it is obvious that God Himself had kept this name in the heart of Adam by giving him the revelation on how she was formed when Adam was in a deep sleep.
Genesis 2:21-23
21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
Now this WOMAN is different from the female, whom God created on the 6th day of Creation due to the following reasons:
- God created man as male and female together. God never created male and thereafter formed female (without creating) out of male.
Genesis 1:27
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
- As God created man as male and female together, God gave the single name- 'ADAM' to both of them.
Genesis 5:2
Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.
- In other words, God created man as MALE ADAM and FEMALE ADAM.
- The purpose of creating MALE ADAM and FEMALE ADAM is quite different from forming WOMAN and keeping her with a MALE ADAM inside the garden of Eden.
Genesis 1:28
28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
- According to the above scripture, the main objective of MALE ADAM and FEMALE ADAM is to be fruitful, to multiply, to replenish, to subdue the earth and to have dominion over the earth.
- It was FEMALE ADAM that was expected to play the role of 'WIFE' in the life of MALE ADAM in order to multiply their generation over the whole earth.
- In this perfect marriage, no MALE ADAM would leave his parents and go after his wife (another FEMALE ADAM) as no wife was taken from the body of husband.
When we consider all these facts, we can come to the conclusion that WOMAN was not originally an ADAM and therefore she was not subject to the commandment of God. That's why when she ate from the wrong tree, neither her eyes were open to see good and evil nor she died.
Well, then who gave 'WOMAN' as the WIFE to MALE ADAM in the garden of EDEN?
