Please look at the below scripture:
(Deuteronomy 18:10-12)
There
shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his
daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times,
or an enchanter, or a witch, Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar
spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For all that do these things
are an abomination unto the LORD: and because of these abominations the LORD thy God doth drive them out from before thee.
According to the above scripture, observing of times is an abomination to the Lord. What do you mean by observing of times?
Well, let's take an example. If someone believes that the end of the
world will occur in 2012, he or she might observe all happenings around
the world in order to justify their belief. For this observation, they
may depend upon the information coming from various channels in the
world itself. Some information would be based on predictions made by
using TECHNOLOGY and some information would be based on current
political events and some information would be based on their own
imaginations. Well, this is the method of people in the world, who are
in diverse beliefs about the future. This is referred to as observing of times.
However, God's people (Christians) too believe many happenings would
take place in the future in accordance with the Word of God. When a
disciple asked Jesus how they would know that the end of the world has
come, Jesus gave various signs and asked them to look at these signs
when they take place and know when the end has come. As a result, today,
many of us as Christians tend to identify these signs based on the information gathered from various channels in the world.
Well, when we try to identify signs given by Jesus, with the information coming from the world itself, we too fall into the category of observers of times,
which is an abomination to the Lord. As the Lord has given signs, the
Lord Himself would bring them to pass by creating circumstances around
us. If we are to identify these circumstances accurately, we should not
rely on the information coming from the world itself.
Then how would we identify these circumstances when the Lord brings them to pass as signs given by Jesus???
(Deuteronomy 18:18-19)
I will raise them up a Prophet from
among their brethren, like unto thee, and will put my words in his
mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him. And it
shall come to pass, that whosoever will not hearken unto my words which
he shall speak in my name, I will require it of him.
The Lord would raise prophets for us to know when things happen in
accordance with the signs given by the Lord. Before the Lord brings
anything to pass, the Lord would inform His prophet so that we too would
come to know them through the prophet. It is the desire of the Lord
that we hearken to the voice of the prophet all the time and believe in
whatever he says to us in the Name of the Lord.
The devil might not want us to do the desire of God. Hence, he would
always try to stir us by filling our mind with various information from
the world which would finally lead us to make our own conclusions
instead of believing the word of the prophet. Hence,
being Christians, we should not observe times by gathering information
from the world as it is an abomination to the Lord. If we do so,
we would always end up with wrong judgements as the Lord is not there in
our imaginations which we have made by the information of the world.
Well, now the big question is how do we find the prophets whom the Lord has raised for us to know the times?
It is very easy to find the true prophets the Lord has sent us. Please look at the below scripture:
(Deuteronomy 18:21-22)
And
if thou say in thine heart, How shall we know the word which the LORD
hath not spoken? When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
Okay, according to the above scripture, we shall know the true
prophets when the things the prophets have prophesied in the Name of the
Lord, come to pass. Even now there are many prophets the Lord has sent us in order for us to know the times. But, we should not just reject them as false prophets without trying them as the Lord has instructed us.
